Terry Fox Run Poster Contest on display

  Inthe 2016-2017 school year, the Terry Fox Run organizing committee of London (TFRL) hosted theirsixth annual Terry Fox Poster Contest, open to all schools in the ThamesValley District and London Catholic School Boards. For the second yearin a row we had a record number of submissions. From groups of 5finalists in each age category, a panel of qualified judges chose winnersin each group. In the category of Junior/Senior Kindergarten, theco-winners were Shekinah Vergara and Elleah Cinnery (tie), from BlessedSacrament School (Teacher - Mrs. Irvine). In the category of Grades 1-3, thewinner was Caleigh Schnare, St. Paul Catholic School (Teacher Mrs.O’Neill). In the Grade 4-6 group, the winner was Vanessa Howard, St. Paul Catholic School (Teacher Mrs. Neves). In the Grade 7-8 category, thewinner was Lara Georghui, also of St. Paul Catholic School (Teacher - Mr.Curcio). The students and their teachers created wonderful sesquicentennialtributes to a true Canadian hero.

    The TFRL committee is very grateful to our wonderful panel of judges, which consisted of:  Kim Woodbridge, Fresh FM; Joe Belanger, London Free Press; Amie Ronald-Morgan,Scene Magazine; Amanda Conlon, Executive Director, London RegionalChildren's Museum; Lisa Armstrong, School Program Coordinator, Terry FoxFoundation; Pasqualina Cardu, local actor and writer; Hilary Welch,Morning Show Host, Jack-FM; and  Miranda Ayim, Olympic basketball teammember.

    The public now has a chance to view these high quality posters. Selections of the submitted posters arecurrently being displayed until Wednesday, September 13 at the Children’sMuseum, Sherwood Forest Mall - Main Hall (1225 Wonderland Rd N), oneLondon Place (lobby), London Life (cafeteria), White Oaks Mall, and CoventGarden Market.

    The Terry Fox Run takes place on Sunday, September 17, at Springbank Gardens, off Wonderland Roadbetween Riverside Drive and Springbank Drive. Registration is openbetween 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and the official start is at 10:00 a.m.There is no entry fee and no minimum pledge required. Participants arewelcome to run, walk, bike, and wheel on a fully accessible trail, andset your own distance of 2, 5 or 10 km. Family participation andstrollers are strongly encouraged. Pledge forms can be obtained at ShoppersDrug Mart and Home Hardware stores, as well as online atwww.terryfox.org, where people may also register singly or as a team to raise moneyon-line.
